Here Comes the Sun

Ready for Summer with Baby?

When my April baby was born, I had visions of spending maternity leave casually breastfeeding poolside while basking in the sun. In fact, we went to the pool once (pictured); and didn't make it in the water. Getting to the deck took 100% of my effort.

5 Summertime Tips with a New Baby

  1. Load up on SPF fabrics - clothing & light blankets that can shield your tiny one in the stroller, carrier, or in your arms. Big hats are everyone's friend. Seek shade.

  2. Sunblock is not recommended before 6 months (rash risk). Be aware what you're putting on your own skin if you're holding baby.

  3. There are a number of Float products for babies - stay away from baby neck floats and always be in the water with your baby, within arms reach.

  4. A couple reusable swim diapers are a good (and adorable) investment if you plan to be at the pool or beach regularly.

  5. Lower your expectations & give yourself grace. It's ok (nay, encouraged!) to take a nap in the air conditioning. Or to put your feet in a bucket of cold water in the shade - invite a friend over and it's basically the same as going to the pool.

Wishing you a code-brown free summer ahead!
